Providing divorce mediation services and
financial support to couples with and without attorneys
Divorce is often described as one of life’s most difficult transitions. It marks not only the end of a chapter but also the beginning of an uncertain journey forward.
I appreciate you visiting my website. Taking this step is a sign of strength and a meaningful move toward rebuilding your life. While it’s natural to feel fear or doubt, facing those emotions head-on is part of the process—and you don’t have to face them alone. The road ahead may bring challenges, but it also holds the promise of growth and new beginnings. Believe in yourself. You are stronger than you think, and fully capable of navigating this transition with resilience, clarity, and purpose.
Courts have acknowledged the significant benefits of incorporating mediation into the litigation process and now require mediation in all family law cases. Whether or not you are represented by an attorney, it is highly likely that you will participate in mediation.
A mediator, serving as a neutral third party, helps empower both spouses to take control of their family & future by making decisions together—rather than leaving those decisions in the hands of a judge.
We chose Deborah as our mediator because she took the time to speak with us during an initial consultation and made us feel heard right from the start. It was also a huge plus that her services included court filing, which made the process more streamlined and less stressful. Throughout our meetings, Deborah was generous with her time, patient, and thoughtful. She helped guide us through discussions that led to an outcome both of us felt good about. We’re grateful for her support and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fair and compassionate mediator.
“My wife and I have had over 50 years experience working with children and families. We are keenly aware of when individuals do their jobs or when the rare circumstance occurs and people move their level of commitment to a higher level. You have humbled me as you have taken me under your wings and worked to ensure a better quality of life for me and my soon to be ex-wife. Your willingness to hold my hand and walk me through complex issues during an emotional time for us has been extraordinary. I have tears in my eyes as I sit here and thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done and helped me to accomplish.”
“I just wanted to thank you for the excellent work you did as it pertains to my divorce from my wife. Your attention to detail really made every aspect of our agreement so much easier to address. I appreciate your efforts to conduct a sound mediation session to assist me in resolving all of our issues so that we can both move on with our lives. My children are fortunate that we are able to work together to raise them without the constant fighting. You helped us iron out a clear schedule and division of responsibilities so we can co-parent. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
empowering couples
Divorce mediation has become a central component of family law in Florida, and with good reason. The courts strongly support mediation as a means of empowering couples to resolve their disputes constructively—without the need for judicial intervention.
Rather than having a judge impose decisions that affect their lives and families, mediation gives parties the opportunity to reach their own agreements in a private, respectful setting.
About
Deborah Beylus is the founder of South Florida Mediation Services, located in Boca Raton, Florida. She is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®), offering specialized expertise in the financial complexities of divorce.
With over 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Deborah brings a unique perspective to mediation, particularly in high-asset or financially complex cases. “If marriage is about love, divorce is about money,” she notes. “Divorce is one of the most significant financial decisions individuals will make in their lifetime, and yet financial literacy is rarely a focus in legal training. Many attorneys value the guidance we provide during this process.”
Deborah’s approach is informed not only by her professional background but also by personal experience. Having gone through her own divorce, she understands the emotional and logistical challenges involved. “The courtroom is not always the best place to resolve deeply personal family matters,” she says. “Mediation allows couples to retain dignity, control, and a sense of fairness in the outcome. In most cases, it is the better option.”
South Florida Mediation Services
The primary benefit of mediation is that it allows divorcing couples to maintain control over the outcome of their case. Through guided negotiation with the assistance of a neutral third-party mediator, spouses can craft solutions that are tailored to their unique needs—solutions that a court may not be in a position to offer. Litigation, by contrast, is inherently adversarial and often leads to a “Winner-takes-all” outcome. In trial, personal matters are decided by a judge with limited insight into the family’s dynamics. Mediation offers an alternative path—one that prioritizes collaboration over conflict and typically results in higher compliance, greater satisfaction, and fewer post-judgment disputes.

Couples make their own decisions rather than deferring to a court.

Mediation occurs outside of the public Courtroom.

Parties can explore creative and mutually beneficial agreements.

The process is less adversarial and can reduce stress for all involved, particularly children.

Mediation often results in quicker resolutions and lower legal costs.

Provides a structured environment for open dialogue and future-focused planning.
Mediation also creates an opportunity to model cooperative problem-solving for children, helping to reduce the emotional toll of divorce on
the family unit.

It is important that participants are well-prepared and, when appropriate, supported by legal and financial professionals during the mediation
Mediation in Florida Divorce Proceedings In Florida, mediation is not only encouraged—it is often required. Whether or not a party is represented by legal counsel, most family law cases are referred to mediation prior to trial. In fact, approximately 95% of Florida divorce cases are resolved through mediation, avoiding the need for courtroom litigation altogether. Importantly, mediators do not make decisions or impose outcomes. Instead, they facilitate productive dialogue, help identify areas of agreement and disagreement, and guide the parties toward mutually acceptable resolutions.
